Saving spring lambs

Most people love this time of year, seeing baby lambs in the fields is a happy sign of springtime. But to us, it’s one of the most painful times of year. We know these babies have been born for one reason only and to be brutally honest, they’ll be on someone’s plate in a matter of months.

Each year we count our blessings for being able to save a lucky few of these babies such as Lexi and Leo who were orphaned when their mums died in childbirth. (A common occurrence as giving birth is a cold, brutal experience for most sheep.)

Lexi arrived nervous and trembling, but Leo’s calmness helped to reassure her that she was safe. They needed us to help them through their first scary days and both seemed to do well for a while.

But after an initial hungry phase, Leo took a turn for the worse and sadly we couldn’t save him. Our little boy was only with us for 13 days, but it feels like we knew him for a lifetime. After a rough introduction to this world, Leo loved life fully and was a pure joy to be around. We’re so sorry that we couldn’t save him. Thankfully Lexi is beginning to thrive after learning to drink from the bottle – keep an eye on our socials for updates.

Leo’s life mattered as all lives do, and in his memory, we won’t stop shining a light on the reality for farmed sheep and lambs.
