Hello hello!!

How’re you doing? Hope you’ve been having a glorious summer so far. None of us here can quite believe that it’s August already… so we’ve decided to make the most of every single sunny day. Think hardcore sunbathing, lots of naps, and extra loud, demands shouted at the humans when it’s dinner time.

We’ve all been loving having lots of visitors. They bring us veggies and sometimes, only if we feel like it, we come over to say hello and get cuddles. Life’s not all that bad, eh.

The 'amazing eight' piglets lining up for a splash of suncream!

On the subject of visitors, the humans have been cooking up something special, and we recently had our first afternoon teas at the sanctuary! A couple of lovely families came to meet us all, fed Chloe’s piglets some carrots, and then sat down to eat some delicious food. I didn’t actually get to taste-test the food, much to my annoyance, but I’ve heard that it was excellent. And even some of us piggies got to eat the leftovers. It rained on and off, but they were lucky with the weather on the whole, and we all popped our heads out of our respective sheltered places to say ‘hi’, when the sky cleared.

Our resident chef @calm.and.kind prepared a feast for our guests

It’s been another busy month for general care and wellbeing around here… we’ve had weekly dustings of all the 54 resident chooks, Cedric the turkey and Sweetie Pie the cockerel, to help them get rid of mites and lice. (A very long job which the humans complained about a lot but was rather entertaining for everyone to watch.)

Then we had the routine vaccinations for the piggies to help us with parasites. Now that was fun to watch. Us curly-tailed folk run absolute circles around the humans and are far too smart to go into the custom-made vaccination corner. It took them a very long time as usual. Though we know that it’s for our own good, really, apart from Mummy pig, who is far from convinced they aren’t trying to kill her every time!

Some lovely humans hugging our rescue hens

Anyway, must dash – we’re all busy comforting 200 new rescue hens, from a local farm. The poor girls were all due to go off to be killed, but they made it here safely instead. Lots to talk to them about, I want to know everything!

Lots of love from me and the rest of the animal clan here.

Speak soon! Florence x
