Our story

Hi there! We are Pear Tree Farm Animal Sanctuary; a Somerset-based sanctuary for those who have had a painful start in life. We offer a home to animals who would have been sent to slaughter, helping them live out their days in peace, comfort, and safety. We believe that every animal has the right to a peaceful, happy life and aim to provide a welcoming home here at the sanctuary.

Our story started just before Christmas 2018 when we took in three huge pigs: Freddie, Florence and Bertie. 

Originally school pets, all three were going to be put to sleep. With a four acre garden, we had the space to take them in and Pear Tree Farm animal sanctuary was born! It is now home to an ever-growing family of rescues including pigs, goats, hens, sheep, horses, and one little ferret.

It takes a lot of love and hard work to care for the residents here at the sanctuary. Each one has their own special personality and while some are happiest settling down for a good belly rub, others prefer doing 'zoomies'; charging around, breaking fences and leaving a trail of destruction wherever they go!

Their antics are adorable but leave us with a lot of repair fees! On top of this, we have food costs and mounting vets bills so are constantly struggling for funds. Any donations, however big or small, go straight to the animals and make such a difference. We wanted a way of showing our appreciation and giving back to donors so, just last week, we created a new and exciting opportunity.

We are excited to introduce... 'Sponsor An Animal' packages!

If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram you might have seen a few mentions of these. It is a new way of joining our tribe where you choose an animal friend to sponsor. Inquisitive Coffee (pictured below) is just one of the residents you could choose!

Your donation helps support and care for animals. As a thank you, you will receive regular email updates about your chosen friend and your very own sponsorship pack. Among other goodies, this includes your sponsorship certificate, three glossy photos, and a mysterious Christmas gift.

We think that you will love getting to know your chosen animal and there are plenty of opportunities to visit the sanctuary and meet your new friend!
